Artificial intelligence is reshaping how governments design policy, provide care, deliver services, and engage with the public. For public servants, these shifts raise fundamental questions like:
Where does AI generate value, and how can these benefits be maintained within institutions governed by law, accountability and public trust?
How can we seize the opportunities with AI while maintaining essential professional judgement?
What skills and institutional safeguards are needed to ensure that we keep — rather than hollow out — the analytical capacity of the public sector?
Given the legal constraints public servants are navigating right now, what is needed to help those in government with making confident, defensible decisions on the use of AI?
This panel brings together leaders from across the public sector to examine AI's implications through three interconnected lenses — policy, people, and law. Together, they will explore where AI creates real opportunity for better, more responsive public services, and where it introduces risks that institutions must confront head-on.
